Crafting Acceptance through Minor art; artistic expression within the stigmatized access for minority children |
The exploration of the affordability of artistic expression in minority children living is the focus of the essay. How could this empower the generation to combat the stigma and normalize the acceptance of arts? The stepping stone of an initiative to create an equitable route into the creative arts through craft is pressing point of discussion concerning the challenging of stigmatization. The role of minor art, a small intervention through creative expression, is a term coined to challenge this. |
The exploration of the affordability of artistic expression in minority children living within council estates and its role in early-life development/education is the seed of this discourse. There is a disparity between children who can access these facilities of visual and creative arts, rooted within socio-economic hierarchies within the UK. Furthermore, there is a cultural discourse to be tapped into, regarding the accessibility and stigma surrounding the arts within third-culture children coming from immigrant families settled in the UK. The apparent stigma surrounds the pursuit of creative professions over more vocational careers. This is due to a key barrier being the economic feasibility and therefore background of these families. The other role is the cultural risk taken to strive for what appears to be an unsustainable life without a safety net, due to the transgressive depiction of the artist and their work. The stepping stone of an initiative to create an equitable route into the creative arts through craft also seems to be a pressing point of discussion concerning the challenging of the stigma. Moreover, would this empower the generation to combat the stigma and normalize the acceptance of arts in minority and migrant families? The role of minor art, a small intervention through creative expression, is a term coined to challenge this. |
